Padres notes: Machado sits; Naylor’s lost lid

MILWAUKEE —

Third baseman Manny Machado, who is hitting .115 in 16 games since Sept. 2, did not play Thursday in the Padres’ 5-1 loss to the Brewers at Miller Park.

“Just a day off,” manager Andy Green said.

Machado, who signed a 10-year, $300 million contract before the season, is second on the team with 30 home runs but is far afield from the career marks he brought into this season.

His .253 average and .456 slugging percentage are down 29 and 31 points, respectively. His .332 on-base percentage is closest, just three points off his OBP his first seven seasons.
