Dinelson Lamet returned from Tommy John surgery in early July. Garrett Richards will make his second start with a reconstructed elbow on Sunday. A third pitcher hoping to rejoin the big-league staff in some capacity — right-hander Jacob Nix — will not make it back to San Diego this year.
Nix experienced some shoulder discomfort after his final rehab start in the Texas League playoffs. While tests did not reveal any structural damage, Padres manager Andy Green said, Nix is not with the team and will not throw big-league innings this year.
