Padres notes: Hoping for more Mejia magic in two-spot; getting two outs for price of one

Andy Green has not used a different lineup in every game.

Just in 21 of the Padres’ 22 games.

After going with the same lineup in the first two games, the Padres manager has tinkered every day right through
Saturday when he is batting catcher Francisco Mejia second against Reds right-hander Luis Castillo.

Mejia is batting .143 this season, but in his first start with the Padres on Sept. 6 in Cincinnati he hit two home runs off Castillo. Saturday, Mejia will follow Fernando Tatis Jr. and hit before Manny Machado.

“We’re trying to find any way we can to kickstart this thing,” Green said.
