Padres notes: Garcia fills short order; Morejon’s season finished

PHOENIX —

Greg Garcia is the Padres’ starting shortstop for the second night in a row and the third time in four games.

Garcia went 3-for-9 with three walks in those past three games, making it easier for manager Andy Green to give Luis Urias another day of “stepping back” after making seven errors in 18 games since taking over at shortstop for the injured Fernando Tatis Jr.

Garcia enters Wednesday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks batting .257/.358/.375 this season and has already set career highs with 57 starts and 297 plate appearances.

After a down year at the plate that contributed to the Valhalla High alum being placed on waivers by the Cardinals, he has reestablished himself a dependable on-base threat.
