Padres notes: Frustrated by call on Myers; France comes through in pinch again

DENVER —

A play in the fourth inning of the Padres’ 10-8 loss to the Rockies on Friday was an instance of what many believe is an inherent flaw in the replay system.

Myers was called out on the field despite easily beating the throw, as second base umpire John Libka waited a long second before signaling out, apparently believing Myers came off the bag at some point while Trevor Story applied the tag.

The Padres challenged the call, and while replays seemed to confirm Myers did not lose contact with the bag, the call was upheld with the explanation being no review angle showed irrefutable evidence the call was wrong.
