Padres notes: France’s plate Gwyntelligence; Maton’s travels; Dickerson in the outfield

Padres hitters have had six plate appearances this season that have lasted at least 10 pitches. Ty France has one in each of the past two games.

Someone showed this kid a thing or two about putting together a good at-bat.

“Coach Gwynn taught us to slow the game down, get in good position, take a good swing,” France said, referring to the late Tony Gwynn, who had a .338 batting average and .388 on-base percentage in his 20 seasons with the Padres before coaching at San Diego State. “He used to say, ‘Swing at (expletive), you’ll get (expletive).
