Padres notes: Davies and Lauer trade zeros; charity game giving; Bochtler’s landing spot

PHOENIX —

Down 2-0 to Keone Broxton in the second inning, Zach Davies flipped his old teammate a change-up, caught him out front and traded smiles with the Brewers center fielder.

“He was laughing and I smiled back at him because I was surprised that he didn’t know it was coming,” Davies said after breezing through two perfect innings in a 7-2 win in the Padres’ Cactus League opener. “He knows me and that I like to do that kind of stuff.”

The Padres’ newest starting pitcher certainly looked like himself in his official brown debut.
