Padres notes: Cutting down Ks; debuts for Gore, Patino; Castillo delay could open bullpen spot;

This is not about spring training statistics.

It certainly is not about the Padres leading the major leagues with a .378 on-base percentage and having the third-fewest strikeouts of any major league team this spring.

All that can judiciously be said is there appears to be progress afoot.

“We’ve got a ways to go, but I do think they’ve done a better job each day of staying in the zone,” manager Jayce Tingler said of his hitters’ overall approach. “We’ve seen some really good two-strike takes to get to the next pitch.
