Padres nearing trade for Oakland infielder Jurickson Profar

The Padres are nearing a deal to acquire infielder Jurickson Profar in a trade with the Oakland Athletics.

Profar, 26, has long been targeted by Padres General Manager A.J. Preller, who was an assistant GM with the Texas Rangers when he signed Profar out of Curacao in 2012. While a league source confirmed the trade, first reported by Robert Murray, it is unclear what the A’s will receive.

Profar was considered a candidate to become a free agent, as the A’s were thought to possibly be about to non-tender him by Monday’s deadline to offer him a contract for 2020.
