Jacob Nix still has a path forward with the Padres. Eric Yardley’s future lies elsewhere.
Both were removed from the 40-man roster after the season. Nix has been outrighted to Triple-A El Paso after clearing waivers while Yardley was claimed on Friday by the Milwaukee Brewers.
The 24-year-old Nix missed all of 2019 while rehabbing a torn UCL sustained in big league camp. He was pitching in the Arizona Fall League when, according to an arrest report, he was reportedly “too intoxicated” to explain why he attempted to enter a home near the Padres’ Peoria, Ariz.
