Padres intrasquad observations: Olivares stays hot; middle infield prospects move around; Yates’ debut

We have to talk about Edward Olivares, who only continues to look more and more comfortable at the plate.

That would be the top takeaway from the Padres’ intrasquad game Tuesday night at Petco Park.

First, the usual disclaimer: Don’t read too much into this recounting. First, these aren’t even spring training games, they are intrasquad games. Second, the reporting is being done from the Park at the Park. I can’t see the outfielders or even the left-field line beyond third base, and I’m looking through binoculars most of the time.

In these reports, I will mix in a little bit of what I hear from inside the organization with what I see.
