Mark Conner’s initial first-round selection was discarded when the Padres signed James Shields to a then-franchise-record deal a few months before the 2015 draft. On Monday, the organization will pick inside the first 10 selections for a fourth straight year. As well as he’s done in that department as the Padres’ amateur scouting director, Conner hopes it’s the last time for quite some time.
