Padres history (June 23): Bret Boone’s big day

Bret Boone became a regular in Cincinnati and even logged his first 20-plus-homer campaign in a Reds uniform. Needless to say, he was plenty comfortable at Cinergy Field when he stepped to the plate on this date — June 24 — in 2000.

The Padres’ second baseman homered in three straight at-bats in a 10-7 win in 10 innings, tying a franchise record. The three blasts — off Rob Bell in the fourth inning, Manny Aybar in the sixth and Scott Sullivan in the eighth — allowed Boone to tie a career-high with six RBIs, which he first amassed with a three-homer game two years earlier while with the Reds.
