Padres history (June 13): Tony Gwynn Jr.'s first race around the bases

Tony Gwynn Jr. followed his father’s footsteps to San Diego State, then to Major League Baseball and ultimately into a Padres uniform and later into their broadcast booth.

The younger Gwynn also tied his dad with two inside-the-park home runs, the first of which came on this date — June 13 — in 2010.

In the third inning of a 4-2 loss to the Mariners at Petco Park, Gwynn Jr. took a 1-2 pitch from ace Felix Hernandez and lined it to center field, where Franklin Gutierrez dove unsuccessfully for the ball.

Left fielder Milton Bradley gave chase but his throw to the plate did not arrive nearly in enough time.
