Padres history (July 20): Manny Machado’s 200th career homer

Manny Machado began to build his résumé with the Baltimore Orioles. He had a pit-stop in Los Angeles. The Padres gave him a $300 million contract to watch him add to his legacy in a San Diego uniform and Machado did just that on this date — July 20 — in 2019 with his 200th career home run at Wrigley Field.

Among third basemen, only Eddie Mathews (25 years, 242 days) had reached the 200-homer plateau faster than Machado (27 years, 14 days) on his third-inning homer off Jose Quintana in a 6-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
