Padres grab two players in Rule of 5 draft

The MLB’s annual Rule of 5 draft took place on Thursday afternoon and the Chargers saw a handful of players come and go before the night was over.

The Padres weren’t involved with any of the picks during either the first or second the Major League phase but things got rolling during the Triple Phase, starting with pick 23. With that selection, the Padres drafted catcher Yorman Rodriguez from the Blue Jays organization. Rodriguez last made a major-league appearance during the 2014 season.

With the 41st selection, the Padres then selected Ben Ruta, a left fielder from the Yankees organization.
