Padres' division rival set to hire GM inheriting one of MLB's biggest disasters

The high altitude in Denver clearly didn’t get in the way of thinking for Rockies owner Dick Monfort, as he announced that the team would be parting ways with Bill Schmidt and searching for a new general manager this offseason.

The move comes after the Rockies finished with the third-worst season in MLB history, posting a record of 43–119, a slightly better result than the 2024 Chicago White Sox (41–121) and the 1962 New York Mets (42–120).

A slow start to the season resulted in Schmidt firing his manager, Bud Black, in May. As the season continued on a downward trajectory, it was only right for the team to move on from Schmidt as well.
