Padres can’t overcome another giant Giants lead after Lucchesi falters

SAN FRANCISCO —

This was more like what is expected when a team falls behind big early.

Tuesday night at Oracle Park, the Padres could not rescue Joey Lucchesi, who allowed his first run of the season and then five more in the second inning of a 7-2 loss to the Giants.

Fact is, despite all the good feelings through the first 12 games of 2019, Tuesday was the fourth time in which the Padres (7-5) trailed by at least five runs before the fifth inning.

Monday, they came back from a 5-0 deficit to beat the Giants 6-5.
