Padres’ 2020 draft class continues to fall into place

Time will ultimately judge the Padres’ 2020 draft class.

As of today, however, it appears scouting director Mark Conner and his staff have put themselves in position to get all their picks under contract.

The Padres went slightly under slot to sign compensation first-rounder Justin Lange ($2 million) and second-rounder Owen Caissie ($1.2 million), the Union-Tribune confirmed Wednesday. MLB.com’s Jim Callis first reported both signings.

With the eighth overall pick, Robert Hassell III, signing for $4.3 million and the rest of the class signing below the recommended value for their spots in the draft, the Padres are in position to offer third-rounder Cole Wilcox a large sum from their $10.
