Nick Pivetta got one run of support from the San Diego Padres lineup, but he made that standup against the Washington Nationals and led his team to a 1-0 win at Petco Park, Wednesday.
Pivetta had a dominant outing for San Diego, completing seven innings, allowing just three hits and recording 10 strikeouts. Pivetta dominated a Washington lineup that seemed to be hitting its stride through the first two games of the series. He held the top four batters for the Nationals, C.J. Abrams, James Wood, Luis Garcia Jr. and Nathaniel Lowe without a hit.
The same four players combined for 10 hits for Washington in the first game of the series and Abrams added two more hits in the second game of the series.
