Scheduled to start Sunday for low Single-A Fort Wayne, left-handed pitching prospect Ryan Weathers instead landed on the TinCaps’ seven-day injured list with a bout of dead arm. The 19-year-old Weathers – the Padres’ seventh overall pick last June – threw just two innings in his previous start.
Weathers is expected to resume throwing in a few days. The Padres, all along, have planned to work in additional rest for young pitchers just joining the organization.
Weathers has 31 strikeouts against three walks and a .233 opponent average in 24 2/3 innings (1.82 ERA) in Fort Wayne’s rotation.
