Minors: MacKenzie Gore strong in scoreless 2019 debut

SAN BERNARDINO —

Now this was more like it. This was MacKenzie Gore, or at least something resembling his own lofty expectations.

Putting last year’s recurring blister behind him, the Padres’ top pitching prospect struck out eight over five shutout innings in high Single-A Lake Elsinore’s 4-0 win Friday night at San Manuel Stadium, Gore’s first outing since a troublesome blister ended his 2018 campaign prematurely.

Gore walked one batter and scattered four hits – including two in the first inning – in winning for just the third time as a pro.
