Minors: El Paso bats pick up slumping Logan Allen

At one point this spring, Logan Allen might have been considered the favorite to win the Padres’ final rotation spot.

That seems so long ago now.

The Padres’ 21-year-old pitching prospects struggled continued Thursday in a 9-8 win saved by Triple-A El Paso’s powerful offense. Five home runs from the Chihuahuas saved a night that began with Allen allowing four runs – two earned – in 1 2/3 innings.

Allen served up three homers among the five hits he allowed, pushing his ERA to 8.15. He was coming off his first quality start, but did not get out of the second for the first time this season.
