Mike Clevinger signed to two-year deal, will undergo Tommy John surgery

On Monday afternoon, the Padres announced that they’ve signed starting pitcher Mike Clevinger to a two-year deal worth $11.5 million that also buys out his arbitration years. The deal pays Clevinger $2 million this upcoming season and $6.5 million in 2022 with a $3 million deferred bonus. It also includes performance bonuses for the ‘22 season.

Unfortunately, the new deal for the ace pitcher was followed by some bad news for fans.

Clevinger is currently in Cincinnati where he’s scheduled to have Tommy John surgery. Of course, that means that Clevinger is expected to miss the entirety of the 2021 MLB season.
