Once again the Padres have found themselves on the wrong side of history. Tonight, James Shields turned 42-year-old starting pitcher Bartolo Colon into the oldest baseball player to hit his first home run. And because anything involving Bartolo has to be as bizarre as possible, his two run shot was the deciding blow of the game.
In the future, baseball historian will date events according to that homer. In 1 BBHR (Before Bartolo Home Run), Yoenis Cespedes put a dent in the Western Metal Building to put the Mets up 2-0.
Then the baseball gods had their fun.
