Memorabilia memories: U-T readers share stories of their most prized sports possessions

Ticket scanners have been used for nearly two decades now when spectators enter a sporting event.

Before that, a perforation along the ticket indicated to ticket takers where to tear it as fans entered a stadium, ballpark or arena.

That explains why most souvenir tickets are ripped.

J.W. August has a ticket from Game 2 of the 1984 World Series that remains intact. It is Section 5, Row 14, Seat 9 in the Upper Level at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.

There’s a simple enough reason the ticket isn’t torn.
