Margevicius starts strong, but Giants edge Padres

The celebrated Padres pitching prospect will make his major league debut Sunday afternoon.

The pitching prospect whose name many people didn’t even know a couple months ago and still can’t pronounce showed him the way Saturday night.

Nick Margevicius (Mar-GAV-uh-chiss) started Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Giants at Petco Park with five scoreless innings before Steven Duggar’s single leading off the sixth drove him from the game.

Robert Stock relieved Margevicius, and Yangervis Solarte’s double that rolled just inside the first base bag scored Duggar. Evan Longoria followed with an RBI single, and Buster Posey walked before lefty Robbie Erlin replaced Stock.
