A two-out, bases clearing double by Manny Machado in the top of the second inning capped a five run inning that allowed the San Diego Padres to earn a 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the first game of their doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park, Wednesday.
Machado lined a ball into the left field corner with the Padres leading 2-0 after Phillies starter Mick Abel walked in two runs earlier in the second inning. The double by Machado made the score 5-0 and knocked Abel out of the game after just 1 2/3 innings pitched.
San Diego batters showed patience at the plate against Abel and throughout the game.
