ST. LOUIS — Center fielder Jon Jay has been named the Padres' winner of the 2016 Heart and Hustle Award.
The award, presented by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, honors players "who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and traditions of the game." A panel of former major leaguers annually votes a winner for each club.
Jay was the St. Louis Cardinals' award recipient in 2010 and 2011.
"Through his work both on and off the field, which includes our Legends for Youth clinics, Jon is an inspiring role model to young players," MLBPAA Chief Executive Officer Dan Foster said in a statement.
