Intrasquad observations: Phamtastic; Mejia stays hot

One of Jayce Tingler’s goals for this week was that Padres hitters would catch back up to the team’s pitchers.

It has apparently happened.

It showed in the stats from intrasquad games that were closed to the media Monday and Tuesday at USD, and it continued in a 4½-inning game Wednesday night at Petco Park.

1. Tommy Pham sent the first pitch (a hanging curve) he saw from Zach Davies into the seats in left field for a two-run homer in the first inning. He yanked an RBI double off Davies down the left field line in the third inning.
