Still just 20 years old, Michael Gettys wasn’t worried about the prospect of a second season in the Midwest League. He didn’t even sweat it when it became a reality. Nevertheless, a talk with special assistant Moises Alou – who repeated a stay at short-season Watertown in 1987 before going onto a 17-year big league career – wasn’t going to hurt.
“He just said in the long run that something like that doesn’t really matter,” Gettys said by phone this week from Fort Wayne, Ind. “You get hot and you get moved up. He said I had the talent.
