PEORIA, Ariz. —
The final line showed just another season in which Garrett Richards didn’t do much on the mound.
In fact, he pitched far less than in any of the previous three years and the results were far worse.
Thing is, the line meant nothing. That Richards pitched at all in 2019 is what matters. On its own, merely pitching for the sake of pitching, it means he had an excellent year. That he threw without pain in his elbow made it exceptional.
“I’m so thankful I was able to come back,” Richards said this week.
