Former perfect-game pitcher Philip Humber retires

PEORIA, Ariz. — Right-hander Philip Humber, who pitched a perfect game in 2012, has retired, Padres manager Andy Green said Tuesday.

Humber, 33, had been attempting to return to the majors for the first time since 2013. He was reassigned to minor league camp Monday, whereupon he chose to call it a career.

"He's at a point in time where he feels like he's done everything there is for him to do in the game," Green said. "He's ready to move on with his family. I have a ton of respect for him."
