Former Chihuahuas manager Rod Barajas, Padres ‘praying’ for people of El Paso

SEATTLE —

Rod Barajas managed the El Paso Chihuahuas from 2016 to 2018. He and his family moved from there to San Diego roughly two months ago at the end of the school year. As news broke Saturday that a shooter killed 22 and injured another two dozen people, the Padres’ first-year bench coach thought not only of all the friends he and his family made during their time in El Paso, but also of what might have been had he not been promoted to San Diego.

Barajas would have been managing the team on a road trip in Memphis.
