Coronavirus, not money, could be what derails MLB season

Even as the focus has been so intently on finances and the inability of players and owners to agree on the terms of staging a 2020 season, the real threat remains COVID-19.

Major League Baseball told the MLB Players Association on Friday that the league would not make a counter to the union’s recent 70-game proposal, which will either lead to more talks or cause MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred to mandate the length of the season.

“MLB has informed the Association that it will not respond to our last proposal and will not play more than 60 games,” the statement read.
