Column: Padres’ Mejia, Hedges catching dilemma swirls anew in Dodgers loss

LOS ANGELES —

Buried in the puddle of ink that was the nearly indecipherable scorecard for the Dodgers’ 11-10, walk-off against the Padres on Sunday at Dodger Stadium, was the unspoken.

Or the somewhat spoken. Or the misspoken.

A game that last nearly four hours, featured 73 at-bats, 23 hits and a dozen pitchers — a baseball endurance test with more twists and turns than Space Mountain — came down to the car’s internal engine, the battery.

The Padres used a pair of mound visits in the ninth inning before Max Muncy polished off his monstrous day by yanking a two-run, game-ending double — his third extra-base hit of the day.
