Column: Padres’ manager search creating buzz at NL Division Series games

LOS ANGELES —

As the Dodgers and Nationals laced up Friday for Game 2 of the NL Division Series at Dodger Stadium, baseball’s chaotic scramble to identify seven new managers continued inside front offices stretching from New York to San Diego.

The first team to swan-dive into the crowded market was the Padres, who jettisoned Andy Green with eight games to play.

It remains unclear if that head start will pay any dividends for the team, which finds itself competing with the Mets, Cubs, Pirates, Giants, Royals and Angels for a comfy dugout fit.
