The new Padres manager, Jayce Tingler, seems impressive in many aspects — if you can get past that he’s never played or managed in the big leagues.
Two quick asides:
I would’ve preferred the team hire its other finalist, Ron Washington. Players from his two Texas Rangers clubs that reached the World Series said Washington is a difference maker.
I’m disappointed that Pads bosses, who collectively are short on big-league savvy, didn’t interview Ozzie Guillen and Mike Scioscia. Both are former big-league players and managers who led a long-suffering franchise to a World Series title. Both have strong personalities.
