Cashner sets Padres record with six K's to open game

Cashner set a franchise record by striking out the first six hitters he faced. The previous record of four was held by several pitchers. Chad Gaudin was the last to do so, on May 31, 2009.

Cashner struck out Jose Altuve, Marwin Gonzalez and Luis Valbuena in the first inning, and then got George Springer, Colby Rasmus and Chris Carter in the second inning. Five of the strikeouts came on sliders.

Houston's Jake Marisnick broke the streak with a double to start the third inning.
