Aggressive thinking right for Padres

You gotta dare to be great.

One of my numerous former bosses used to tell me that, tell me that all the time. So I’ve repeated it to my kids, repeated it to anyone crazy enough to ask me for advice, worn out the tape. Because it’s perfect.

Greatness will not come to you. It is not a pet. It cannot be lured.

So when the Padres’ detractors ramble on about San Diego’s baseball team -- how General Manager A.J. Preller fired all of his bullets last fall and then, after his commando raid failed, didn’t have the ammunition to get anything done prior to the July 31 trade deadline -- I couldn’t help but think of my old boss, that Preller was and is right.
