In perhaps the least surprising news in Spurs franchise history, Tim Duncan’s No. 21 is headed to the AT&T Center rafters.
The Spurs will retire Duncan’s number in a postgame ceremony following the Dec. 18 game against New Orleans, the team announced this morning.
He will become the eighth Spurs player to have his jersey honored, joining a list that includes David Robinson, George Gervin, James Silas, Johnny Moore, Sean Elliott, Avery Johnson and Bruce Bowen.
In Spurs’ lore, Duncan — who retired last July after a record 19 seasons in San Antonio — stands head and shoulders above the all.
