Spurs praise Green for defensive effort against Westbrook

SAN ANTONIO – Guard Danny Green received plenty of praise in the locker room for his prominent role in helping the Spurs limit Russell Westbrook to 27 points, 14 assists and six rebounds in Tuesday’s 108-94 win over the Thunder.

Green began the game defending Westbrook, who finished the first quarter with four points on 2-of-5 shooting and zero assists after entering the game with first period averages of 6.2 points and 3.1 assists.

“He made sure nothing was easy for him early,” said Kawhi Leonard, who also defended Westbrook. “A guy like that can score 50 points if he gets four or five easy looks in that first quarter and starts getting in a rhythm.
