SAN ANTONIO – Spurs coach Gregg Popovich applauded NBA commissioner Adam Silver for reducing the number of back-to-back games and four games in five days that NBA teams play.

In an effort to reduce fatigue and wear and tear on players, something Popovich has advocated for years, the league reduced back-to-backs from 19.3 last season to 17.8 this season. No team has more than 20 back-to-backs this season.

The league also reduced four games in five days .9 per team this season, down from 2.3 per team last season.

“It’s taken a long time,” Popovich said, “but under Adam Silver’s leadership, he has bent over backwards to try to figure this stuff out, whether it’s resting players, which we would never have a part in, or listening to the players and the coaches and the GMs about the schedule and what can help the players be even more productive and have longer careers.
