Spurs’ Leonard ignores MVP talk

NEW ORLEANS – Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard was asked at All-Star media day on Friday what qualifications a player should have to be a league MVP candidate.

“Carrying the team every night, winning games, giving the fans what they want to see,” he said.

Leonard has all of the above and then some. He’s the best player on the NBA’s second-best team record-wise and his must-see athletic ability on both ends of the court ranks among the league’s best.

But he stressed that gaining that coveted piece of hardware isn’t a priority for him.

“I’m not too concerned with it,” said Leonard, who finished second in the voting last season to Golden State’s Stephen Curry.
