NEW ORLEANS – The National Basketball Retired Players Association honored Spurs great David Robinson as its humanitarian of the year at its 18th annual NBA Legends Brunch on Sunday.
Robinson’s charitable work includes founding Carver Academy on San Antonio’s East Side. The Naval Academy graduate has also been active in aiding the U.S. servicemen and women.
In his acceptance speech, Robinson encouraged today’s players to give back to the community.
“If you forget your history, you forget who you are,” Robinson said. “I hope the young guys who are playing today realize what they have been given and will take it upon themselves to give back in return.
