SALT LAKE CITY — Spurs center Pau Gasol made NBA history Wednesday night, on the final night of his 16th regular season.
A layup with 26.2 seconds left in the Spurs’ 101-97 loss to Utah gave Gasol 20,001 career points. He became the 43rd player to join the NBA’s 20K-point club, and the third to accomplish that feat in a Spurs uniform, joining David Robinson and Tim Duncan.
“It’s hard to imagine getting to this number,” Gasol said. “You don’t appreciate it as much in the present. A few years from now, down the road, it’s something to look at.
