SAN ANTONIO – Spurs swingman Jonathon Simmons scored 17 points in 34 minutes in the 109-103 win over Utah on Sunday after being limited to mainly garbage-time duty in the club’s previous three games.
It was his first double-digit scoring effort and his most playing time since he scored 10 points in 27 minutes in a 16-point win over Sacramento on March 19.
So did he learn anything during his stint near the bottom end of the bench?
“No. Just to cheer my teammates on,” the second-year player from Houston said.
That was a surprising comment after what Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said after Sunday’s game regarding Simmons.
