Rookie’s mental toughness impresses Spurs veterans

SAN ANTONIO – Rookie point guard Dejounte Murray’s stick-to-itiveness in the Spurs’ 100-99 win over the Pacers on Wednesday night earned him some major points with the team’s veterans.

“He made a few mistakes tonight and it seemed like he got frustrated, but then it was like, ‘Look, I’ve got the next play. I’ll get you back,’ ” big man David Lee said.

Murray started in place of Tony Parker (quad contusion), but he found himself on the bench at the start of the second half after Spurs coach Gregg Popovich decided to go with veteran backup Patty Mills after the Spurs trailed 49-47 at the break.
