Newly signed San Antonio Spurs center Boban Marjanovic will not be allowed to represent his native Serbia during Eurobasket competition, the team announced Tuesday.
Marjanovic, a 7’4″ rim protector, was diagnosed with a “significant bony edema in his left ankle, according to the release, which also read:
The Spurs medical team, in conjunction with Dr. Ferkel’s recommendation, has determined the injury compromises Marjanovic’s ability to play basketball without compromising long-term health and future injury.
Eurobasket likely would’ve been one of Marjanovic’s final chances to enter a meaningful contest over the next year.
He’ll log a handful of minutes for the Spurs, but most will come in already-decided games or when Tim Duncan occasionally receives a night off.
