AT&T CENTER – Two weeks ago the San Antonio Spurs entered their first preseason game with a roster of 20 players. With opening night approaching on Wednesday for the Spurs next week in Oklahoma, the deadline to waive players tomorrow, Saturday, October 24, is approaching when rosters must be trimmed to a maximum of 15 players.
Currently, the Spurs have 17 players on their roster, with only 13 of those players currently on guaranteed contracts. Of the four nonguaranteed players, only veteran Matt Bonner is the most likely lock to occupy the 14th roster spot. Julian Washburn, who was signed by the team Thursday, is expected to be waived in order for him to sign a D-League contract with the Austin Spurs.
